Get your Charleston heating and air system ready!

As anyone who lives in South Carolina knows, in one day you can switch your heater over to your AC and back again. When the South Carolina heat returns, it does so quickly. So don’t wait until the last minute to find out if your air conditioner is ready to go! To keep your HVAC working properly, here’s what you need to do when you shut the heating off and turn the cold air on. These are the need-to-know basics about Charleston heating and air conditioning.

Change Your Filters

Filters are designed to reduce air pollution and to ensure that your ductwork is safe from the dust and debris that can tax your heating and cooling units. They also help to increase air flow going to and from your units – but only if you change them regularly. Before you switch on your air conditioning and shut your heating down, change the air filters around the house! That way you can reduce allergens in your home, increase the efficiency of your units, and reduce wear and tear to extend the life of your HVAC.

Regular Maintenance is Key

When it is time to have the heating turned off for the season, that’s when you should have your unit maintained. Regular maintenance is essential to keep your unit running well and to reduce wear and tear. It is also a great way to make sure that you don’t have a small problem lurking that could turn into a big one. If you turn off your furnace and don’t have it maintained, then all through the summer months it will be sitting idly and getting all gunked up. And then when you turn it on in the fall, you are more likely to damage it. Also, if you didn’t have your air conditioning serviced in the fall, do so now before you switch it to on to ensure that it is running optimally!

Clean Up Outdoor Debris

Your air conditioning has been sitting outside throughout the fall and winter months. This means it is critical that you clean up anything that is clogging the vents or the fans. Also, make sure to remove any branches or leaves that are sitting around the unit to lessen the likelihood that outdoor dust and debris can reduce its functioning.  A spring clean is important for both your indoor areas and your outdoor ones!

With spring just around the corner, now is the time to get your Charleston heating and air system ready to go. In the South, it is not unusual to switch the heating to cool and back in one day. So make sure that your system is ready to go in order to make summer that much easier.
